Blues opened up their friendlies campaign against Horley Town from the Combined Counties Premier. The backdrop at the south western end of the ground is now a large pile of hardcore replacing Sawyers Health Club and with a seemingly unattended and bumpy pitch Hanbury is looking less like the San Ciro than last year. Chris Turner,Ant Humphries and Louis Wright were all I could reconise of last years first team. Horley themselves came with a new manager a few of last years team, reserves and trialists. Despite the scoreline Heath gave a good account of themselves against opponents four levels higher in league status. Both sides tried to play good open football on the ground although the ball at times took on a mind of it's own on the bumpy serface. Much of the play was in mid field although Chris Turner was called upon to make sharp saves on a number of occasions. After the break Horley began to get into their stride and a cross from the Heath left was headed across the face of the goal manned by the sub keeper for the opener. Heath started to become a more potent force going forward but a resolute Horley rear guard forced them to shoot from distance and usually well over the bar. It was not until the last minute against a darkening sky(no floodlights) that Horley increased their lead when a similiar move down the left once again exposing the weekness on the right side of the Heath defence lead to another cross this time taken on the volley by the Horley forward and buried deep into the net.Overall the team looked compact and efficient in most of their play and prospects for the new season not bad at all. The "crowd" of 39 (sorry if I missed anyone) found their way out of a darkening Hanbury in good spirits.

Hi mooresy21,
I do not think that any Blues players have gone to Tooting. Seems from their web site that they are recruiting from the higher regions of non league plus League 2 youngsters & old guys. They seem set on a promotion bid. Only local player they have signed is Nigel Brake from Horsham, a class act. I managed to see the first hour of St Francis Rangers v Wembley Town this morning, Frankie Dellow was playing as a loan striker and weaved his way through the Wembley defence and then around the keeper for a quality opener. No other Heath players that I reconised despite rumors that most of the side were going there.
